Nibal Mohamad Ahmad Thawabteh is the director of the Media Development Center of Birzeit University since 2008. She accumulated experience of 18 years in managerial, organizational and communication professional experience in Palestine. Well known in Palestine as one of the best trainers in different topics in media and journalism. She holds a MA in management and education, and she also has vast professional experience of more than 15 years in media training and capacity building in Palestine and other Arab countries in different media topics including media management, 15 years professional experience in media production in Palestine, expertise-level knowledge of editing and media research. As the editor in chief of Al Hal newspaper, and her position as the board chairwoman of Ma’an Palestinian News Agency for six years, she gained an in-depth knowledge of Palestinian and Arabic Islamic media. Nibal was awarded in 2008, the International Woman of Courage Award – Washington from The American Foreign Affairs Ministry, and has a number of media-related publications including a manual on Media, Elections, and Women, and a study of Freedom of expression and opinion in Palestine, and other articles in Arabic and English. She also produced a series of documentary films that were broadcasted in Arab satellite channels and wrote scenarios for TV Arabic series. She worked as a consultant for local and international organizations as EU, UNESCO, IMS, BC, and WAN, and she is a board member for several institutions. In addition to her experience in media and training, Ms. Thawabteh has worked in providing monitoring and evaluation for different media projects.
