Lurking

I'm not as active on Wikipedia as I once was. Mostly due to things like the fiasco at WP:SCHOOL, Wikipedia:Schools/Defunct, and Wikipedia:Schools/Old proposal. If you need to get in touch with me, my direct e-mail address is available from http://charette.no-ip.com:81/. --Stéphane Charette 09:38, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On Wiki, Schools, and Watchlists

As I note at WT:EiC how additional school articles are regularly being deleted and/or merged because of the "schools are non-notable" movement, I realize Wikipedia is continuing to move in a direction that has less and less interest to me. I find it incredible how a vocal minority (such as those on various school AfDs and the talk page of WP:Schools over the past few months) can so negatively influence groups of editors who just recently were not only well-organized but contributing in a very positive manner.

FWIW, I am very tired of the argument from deletionists that goes something like this: "Do you know how many schools there are in the world? Can you imagine if people created an article for each one of these schools?" Yes! Some of us can imagine it, and we think in the long run that Wikipedia is the best place for it. I cannot help but feel that the anti-school deletionists have won for now and have forced those of us like myself to either leave or conform to what only they want to see.

I've removed just over 600 pages from my watchlist tonight. Mostly school-related articles. The only things that remain on my watchlist are a few templates and non-school related articles I've written myself, such as Mount Boucherie.

Enough of a rant. Back to lurking. --Stéphane Charette 05:59, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Editing

Hey, I just added a new paragraph to the article A. Y. Jackson Secondary School (Toronto). This came from the school pamphlet. If you want one for the proof, please call the school 416 395-3140 and request it. Thanks, bye.

Please don't call me a bully.

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. However, we remind you not to attack other editors. Please comment on the contributions and not the contributors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. --GreenJoe 17:59, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Welcome"??? Let me put this in perspective: Mr. GreenJoe shows up years late, nominates 3 of our templates for deletion -- templates that we've worked hard to standardize across our articles! -- states that my reasons for voting keep are "invalid", and then shows up on my talk page saying "welcome to Wikipedia", look at the welcome page, and don't attack other editors.
(This rant is about my comment here.) --Stéphane Charette 22:32, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Stéphane, GreenJoe and I don't usually agree on much, but I do agree with him on this -- it was inappropriate to call him a bully. He is perfectly entitled to dispute the validity of your rationale, just as you are perfectly entitled to challenge his reasoning. Whether or not you and others have "worked hard" on the templates is not relevant -- you are venturing into WP:OWN territory. No harm done - we all get worked up at times over the actions of other editors. Skeezix1000 12:26, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Csdcso.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Csdcso.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 16:24, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey!

Hey S charette! I can understand why you would think that my contributions to the talk page of the Canadian Notice Board would be spam. I totally agree with you, however we do need more support and more help from the Canadians in the Community to build up the bid of the only Canadian city bidding to host Wikimania. I asked several longtime editors/admins last night on IRC if it was ok to post and most of them said that it would be preferable if I placed them on Wikiproject pages instead individual usertalk pages. That is why I placed them on the noticeboard along with several other Wikiprojects. Again my reasoning is we need more support and more help from the Canadians in the Community to build up the bid of the only Canadian city bidding to host Wikimania. I also just read the WP:SPAM and WP:CANVASS, and from my interpretation of them, I have not violate either of them. However, if you wish to keep it off the noticeboard, I will respect that. WCCP

Hi,

There wasn't much there, and what was there lacked context, which was why it was speedy deleted. The text, in total, was:

"Cisco's answer to layer four switching technology (before they acquired Arrowpoint) is the Web Cache Coordination Protocol (WCCP).WCCP is different from the typical layer four interception in a couple of ways."

If you're planning on writing a new, better draft, I'd suggest starting afresh. Best wishes, Xoloz 00:33, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No doubt

There's no doubt in my mind that wikiwoo is up to his old games. However, I don't feel like fighting this one this time. I'll let you handle it and report it. He edited the page once again. --Renrenren (talk) 20:52, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I had him banned when he came back as User:Coolhandfluke. I put in a help me request and the admin that showed up was familiar with the case. You seem to be much more familiar with this process as I am. Wikiwoo/joan seems to have a beef to pick between franco and anglo relations. There's no doubt in my mind that he's returned.--Renrenren (talk) 12:56, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've just left a message on (Lexicon's talk page) as he was the admin that dealt with wikiwoo last time. --Renrenren (talk) 13:02, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've added two other sock accounts on the first link you have given. I don't know if I did it correctly as it said I should post it to another page as well but I would have needed admin status to do that. I've added a help me template here so that I can know if I did it correctly or not. With wikiwoo's long standing disputes on that page and others here on wikipedia, hopefully an administrator will be able to take a look at the page in question as well as the latest talk page entries and see if another block, perhaps an IP block is in order. --Renrenren (talk) 21:01, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Impersonation by User:S-charete

S-charete has just been blocked indef for vandalism. I marked his user page for speedy deletion as a copyvio of yours. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 20:19, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

<sigh> Childish vandalism by Eduardo Rivero, or his brother User talk:ANDRESRIVERO, or the groupies at Schule Schloss Salem. They've been adding their names to articles for the past few years, and I keep removing them. Recently they've started a campaign of personal attacks. (See the history on my user page.) Looks like impersonation is next. --Stéphane Charette (talk) 08:04, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(I should also mention their other recent attempt at a unique username obviously related to me: User talk:Wehatecharette.) --Stéphane Charette (talk) 08:13, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I find it interesting that the same students who regularly vandalize the English-language articles are responsible for vandalism at the German-language wiki as well: http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Schule_Schloss_Salem&diff=prev&oldid=40471524
It doesn't take Babelfish to guess that this isn't a valid edit: http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Schule_Schloss_Salem&diff=next&oldid=40471530
