Rick Mercer's Monday Report will be a Canadian television comedy. The show focuses on Canadian politics, combining news parody, sketch comedy and satirical editorials.

It is Rick Mercer's first appearance on the screens after the termination of This Hour Has 22 Minutes.

It will also feature Mercer in front of a live audience in Toronto, Ontario in Canada where he'll open each week with what he calls a state of the nation address.

The segment will likely play up Mercer's skill in boiling down current events into pointed, hilarious truisms. It's the rest of the show, however, that might just further blur Mercer's line between comedian and touchstone Canadian truth-teller.

It will air on CBC Friday nights starting in January 2004.
