Shibpur is a nice residential area located in the district of Howrah. Long time ago the royal landlords in Bengal used to live there. They sold their possession to build jute mills during the British era. The popular jute mills included Howrah Jute Mill, Bengal Jute Mill, etc. Over the last 10 years it has developed into a popular residential community. Tons of mutlistoried apartment complexes have come up. The city of Shibpur, well connected to South Kolkata by Vidyasagar Setu and closeness to river Ganges has grown out of proportions.

The city is known for Botanical Garden, Bengal Engineering college, Jain Hospital and Hazar Hath Kaali.

The best way to reach Shibpur is from Howrah station by road or via a steamer on the river Ganges. Newly constructed roads have made access to this city very easy.
