Chromostereopsis is a visual perception where two colors of comparable value are placed side by side, especially red and blue, because both colors vibrate for human eyes. Generally it is irritating to viewer's eyes and causes discomfort when focused on for any amount of time. As well, it is visually unappealing in most circumstances. Some other examples are red and green, blue and dark gray, and red and gray.

Avoiding Chromostereopsis

It can be avoided by using black or white boundaries or outlines. Increasing the contrast between the two colors is also effective.
