The International Affairs Association (IAA) of the University of Pennsylvania has been one of the most prominent organizations at the University of Pennsylvania since its founding over 45 years ago[1]. The organization is heavily involved in, but not limited to, the Model United Nations circuit. In 1963, the IAA hosted the inaugural University of Pennsylvania Model United Nations Conference (UPMUNC), establishing a tradition of excellence that continues today[2].

With over 250 dedicated members, the IAA is proud of its legacy of contribution to the Penn community, fostering academic interest in the world at large through speaker series and university debates[1].

It currently hosts two internationally-attended and -recognized Model United Nations Conferences, UPMUNC and the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference (ILMUNC), in the fall and spring terms respectively[2]. The IAA's world-renowned Intercollegiate Model United Nations Team has firmly established itself as one of the best in the nation by winning the most competitive conferences[3]. The IAA's internal publication, “The Ambassador,” published six times a year, keeps the club members informed and entertained[1].

In 2008-2009, the IAA plans to extend outreach into the Philadelphia community by partnering with the World Affairs Council[1]. The IAA hopes to give its members frequent and varied service opportunities. In 2008-2009, the IAA will launch an academic publication that will solicit contributors from around the world[1].

The IAA offers its members a wide array of resources to initiate IAA-sponsored programs and activities. The IAA claims to be committed to remaining proactive, accessible, and flexible[4].

ILMUNC

"Hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, ILMUNC is the premier Model United Nations conference for high school students[5]."

"ILMUNC 2009 will be held from Thursday, January 29 to Sunday, February 1 at the Sheraton City Center Philadelphia[5]."

UPMUNC

"Now in its forty-second year, UPMUNC claims thousands of people from all walks of life as satisfied alumni, who have appreciated the conference's innovation, realism and excitement. The conference continues its tradition of being located in Center City, Philadelphia, America's first capital, and home to the nation's first diplomat: Benjamin Franklin[6]."
