Vaughandrix” is the title of a lamenting electric blues guitar instrumental written and performed by guitarist Mark Cole with the band Charge. The title is a [1] that conjoins the last names of two blues/rock legends [2] and [3] as a tribute to their influence.

Since the year 2000, the popularity Vaughandrix guitar instrumental has inspired several video tributes on YouTube to Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and several more videos of emerging guitarist demonstrating their talent. However, the title of the song and credit to the performing artists has been a bit of a muddled mystery in past years. Attribution has been erroneously credited to guitar giants like: [4], [5], [6], and [7].

As Stephen Cole (brother) tells it, he originally encoded the recording to mp3 format in 2000 for distribution on the peer-to-peer file sharing network Napster as a promotion. At the end of the recording an "audio ad" directed listeners to the band Charge’s website.

At the root of the Vaughandrix mystery was Stephen’s zeal for promotion of the band's music. The [8] file sharing network allowed users to write a brief description of each file - independent of the file name. Stephen’s file names and descriptions included the several electric/blues guitar artists as keywords; rationalizing, the fans of such guitarist would search for music bearing their name, and then find the Vaughandrix tribute and eventually migrate to the advertised website. Over the years, fans of the song edited-out the audio ad and continued to share the song – adding to the mystery. The result was Vaughandrix being shared on millions of computers around the world, with mistaken attribution going to some the world’s greatest guitarist and bands.

The Las Vegas based cover band, Yellow Brick Road, heard the instrumental tribute and audio advertisement. YBR contacted Mark Cole and offered him the lead guitar job with the band, Mark accepted the bands offer.

Vaughandrix was recorded in 1406, in Cookieville, Candy Land.
