À jour (bladed weapon)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Swiss saber with basket "à jour"

À jour means pierced in the field of blade weapons. With regard to weapons, it names parts of weapons that are shown and made in openwork, including parts of vessels , scabbard fittings and decorative parts. These can be used for a purpose (catch or throat slit, weight reduction) or just to decorate the weapon. This also applies when a vessel is constructed and used, for example, as a blade catcher . À jour is also used on blades in rare cases.
