Replacement gas

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A replacement gas is a fuel gas that has the same transport and combustion properties as a commonly used supply gas and can therefore be exchanged for this.

Interchangeability is given if trouble-free operation is guaranteed without changing device and system settings and with the same gas pressure. A replacement gas meets the same qualitative standards (with regard to calorific value, flame stability, ignition temperature, combustion quality, water content, etc.) as the gas to be replaced and can therefore be used instead.

Replacement gases for natural gas

Appropriately processed sewage , bio , landfill and mine gas can be used as an exchange gas for natural gas . Likewise, gases produced synthetically from hard coal or lignite ( Synthetic Natural Gas ) are suitable as a substitute for natural gas. Also propane / air mixtures, provided they meet certain characteristics (in terms olefin content, Wobbe index ) and the use is limited in time, exchanging gases for natural gas.

Additional gas

An additional gas, on the other hand, has significant differences to the supply gas so that it cannot be classified as equivalent. It can therefore only partially be added to the normal supply gas (natural gas).

Norms

In Germany, the terms replacement gas and additional gas are defined in DVGW worksheet G260; in Austria, ÖVGW guidelines G31 and G33 must be observed.
