Oil drain plug

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The oil drain plug is a screw plug made of metal or plastic, which closes a drain opening by means of an interposed sealing ring. This opening is required to drain the used oil when changing the oil before refilling. The oil drain plug is located at the lowest point of the oil pan , so that the oil it contains can flow out completely under its own gravity and the entire system empties independently.

Instead of an ordinary screw, a special oil drain screw with a valve (sometimes also called "Bochum plug") can be used.
