Austrian Music Fund

The Austrian Music Fund is an initiative to promote professional Austrian music productions in order to increase their exploitation and distribution and to strengthen Austria as a creative location. The Austrian Music Fund is organized as an association in a public-private partnership model and entered in the register of associations under the name Austrian Music Funding . The Austrian Music Fund is open to all music-making authors , performers, music producers, music publishers and labels living in Austria .

The Music Fund is the Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture , as well as well-known institutions of Austrian musical life ( AKM / GFÖM , Austro Mechana / SKE fund , trade association Film & Music , IFPI , ÖSTIG ) and from about mid-2010 additionally from ORF funded and endowed with 680,000 euros annually (from around mid-2010 780,000 euros annually).

Production promotion

The Austrian Music Fund supports music productions on sound carriers or other audiovisual media , or music productions for evaluation in new media. Funding is given to album productions or productions that have album character due to their size. Funding for single productions, commissioned and film music projects is generally excluded. Since 2020, however, compilations are supported in addition to albums .

The submitted project should not be financially feasible or not financially feasible without financing from the music fund. Production must not be completed at the time of the funding approval and must not violate applicable rights.

Relevant criteria for the promotion of production are its suitability as a cultural asset with Austrian characteristics, the professionalism in production and the possibility of exploitation at home and abroad.

A maximum of 50% of the production volume and a maximum of 50,000 euros per production are funded. The own funds brought in can (partially) also be provided in the form of assessed material and personnel services.

Applications for production funding can be made on annually set dates. The funding is awarded by a jury of experts.

Tour support

Live tours are also supported by the Austrian Music Fund. The tour support program is open to all artists and bands who have already received funding from the music fund. The production funded by the music fund must have been published within the last twelve months before the start of the tour. The tour submitted must be directly related to the sponsored production, i. H. primarily serve their doctorate.

Funding is provided for live performances as part of a tour that takes place in the form of concerts, festival performances or special individual events (CD release party or similar) within Austria, with a series of live performances under the same program title and within a period of time understood by 3 months.

Artist fees as well as positions that are necessary for the realization and promotion of the performances (rental of technical equipment, technician fees, poster costs, travel expenses, etc.) are subsidized. The subsidy is made individually depending on the circumstances and needs and is earmarked and billed according to effort. A maximum of 1,000 euros per concert is subsidized, a maximum of 10,000 euros per tour in total.
