Øyvind Eide (information scientist)

Øyvind Eide is a Norwegian scientist who works primarily in the field of digital humanities at various institutions in Europe. Since 2017 he has been a professor at the Chair of Historical and Cultural Information Processing at the University of Cologne , which is part of the Institute for Digital Humanities.

His main research interests are the modeling of information of cultural heritage and the relationship between texts and maps as a means of communication as well as the conceptual modeling of texts. As a freelance consultant, he mainly works in the areas of text coding, museum informatics and the planning of digital projects.

Professional background

After completing his studies, Eide worked from 2005 to 2013 in changing positions at the University of Oslo . Most recently, he was Senior Analyst in the Digital Documentation Department. Since 2002 he has been on the board of the Norwegian dictionary project Norsk Ordbok 2014. In 2004 he and a colleague founded the Ontologies Special Interest Group of the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Consortium. In 2013, Eide received his PhD from the Research Council of Norway at King's College , London .

Memberships

Øyvind Eide has been a convener for the TEI Ontologies Special Interest Group since 2004.

He has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Edvard Munch's Writings since 2007.

From 2008 to 2016 he was a board member of the European Association for Digital Humanities (EADH).

From 2008 to 2010 he was Vice Chairman of the CIDOC Co-reference Working Group, and in 2010 he became its Vice Chairman.

Until 2014 he was chairman of the advisory committee for the project Standards for Networking Ancient Prosopographies: Data and Relations in Greco-Roman Names (SNAP: DRGN)

From 2011 to 2015 member of the first working group (Space and Time) of the NeDiMAH (Network for Digital Methods in the Arts and Humanities)

From 2011 to 2017 he is a board member of the Awards Committee of the Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO).

Since 2012 member of the International Society for Intermedial Studies (ISIS).

From 2014 to 2015 he is head of the ADHO SIG Global Outlook :: Digital Humanities (GO: DH)
