ÜHIIs
The ÜHIIs - seldom also written ÜH II s or ÜH IIs - is a German trolleybus type. It was produced jointly as a joint venture by Waggonfabrik Uerdingen AG and Henschel at the beginning of the 1950s . The type designation consists of the vendor name U Erdingen and H enschel, the standard size II (for ten to eleven meters long vehicles) and the reference to s elbsttragende body together. Henschel was responsible for the chassis , while Uerdingen produced the body. Constructively, the type ÜHIIs has great similarities with the Uerdingen rail bus , especially with its prototypes. Both are based on the concept of self-supporting lightweight steel construction, which does not require a chassis . The entrances, however, differed, the two sliding doors were characteristic of the type discussed here . The total of ten vehicles of the type ÜHIIs were delivered to three German trolleybus companies as follows:
Construction year | Numbers | Electrics | business | in use until |
---|---|---|---|---|
1950 and 1951 | 101-103 | SSW | Moers trolleybus | 1964/1965 |
1951 | 1-5 | BBC | Trolleybus Marburg | 1966/1968 |
1951 | 14-15 | AEG | Giessen trolleybus | 1966 |
Shortly afterwards, the ÜHIIs was replaced by the somewhat longer successor model, the ÜHIIIs , with three folding doors as the most important distinguishing feature - instead of the two sliding doors. Cars very similar to the ÜHIIs ran in Cologne and from 1951 on the Baden-Baden trolleybus . However, they were built in a conventional design with Uerdinger bodies on Henschel II 6500 chassis and were therefore not self-supporting.
