Ginkgo Biloba translator award for poetry

The Ginkgo-Biloba Translator Prize for Poetry is a German literature prize that has been awarded by the Freundeskreis Literaturhaus Heidelberg eV since 2018 for outstanding achievements in the field of translation of foreign-language poetry into German. The prize is endowed with 5000 euros and is awarded by a seven-member jury.

The name of the award refers to the poem Ginkgo biloba by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe from 1815, which appeared in the West-Eastern Divan Collection in 1819 . The sheet to which the poem refers is said to have come from a ginkgo tree on the terrace ( artillery plant ) of Heidelberg Castle .
