Richard Pietraß

Richard Pietraß (born June 11, 1946 in Lichtenstein ( Saxony )) is a German poet, translator and editor.

Life

Pietraß graduated from high school in 1965. He acquired the skilled worker certificate as a metalworker, worked as an assistant nurse and then did his military service. From 1968 to 1975 he completed a degree in clinical psychology and a research degree at the Humboldt University in Berlin. From 1975 to 1979 he was editor of the lyric poetry publishing house Neues Leben and at the same time editor of the literary magazine Temperamente . From 1977 on, Pietraß published the poetry series Poesiealbum . After taking over from the editorial team and forcing him to leave it in 1979, he is a freelance writer. In 1989 he was elected to the PEN Center Germany , since 2000 he has been a member of the Saxon Academy of the Arts , where he was secretary of the literature and language maintenance class from 2001-2011. From 2009 to 2012 - in succession to Bernd Jentzsch as in the 1970s - he was the editor of the poetry series Poesiealbum published by Märkischer Verlag Wilhelmshorst . In 2019 he was elected member of the German Academy for Language and Poetry in Darmstadt. Pietraß lives and works in Berlin.
