Liz Mields-Kratochwil
Liz Mields-Kratochwil , b. Christa-Elisabeth Kratowil (born December 11, 1949 in Pleismar ) is a German sculptor .
life and work
After training as a bookseller and ceramist with Walter Gebauer , Liz Mields-Kratochwil studied sculpture at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art from 1974 to 1979 . There she learned from Karl-Heinz Schamal , Werner Stötzer and Siegfried Krepp . From 1986 to 1989 she was a master class student at the Akademie der Künste zu Berlin under Wieland Förster . Since 1994 she has been arranging art projects for prisoners in Berlin prisons.
In many variations and sizes, Liz Mields-Kratochwil mainly creates sculptures out of steel and standard wire mesh. In her extensive work she deals with the contrasts between basic geometric forms and the organic in nature. Again and again she examines the possibilities as mutually equal forms.
In 2019, the sculptor was awarded the 16th Brandenburg Art Prize in the plastic category.
