Karl-Heinz Schamal

Karl-Heinz Schamal (born December 1, 1929 in Luxdorf ; † August 9, 2018 in Jüterbog ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Schamal completed an apprenticeship as a stonemason from 1943 to 1946 . He then studied from 1950 to 1952 at the Berlin University of the Arts under Gustav Seitz , Bernhard Heiliger and Hans Uhlmann . Then he was a student of Seitz for three years, from 1957 to 1960 master class with Seitz and Fritz Cremer . From 1967 (until?) He taught at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . His students included Rolf Biebl , Sonja Eschefeld-Krepp and Emerita Pansowova.

Works (selection)

Karl-Heinz Schamal was a representative of the figurative style. His main subject was human figures, which he designed in bronze , but also in sandstone . The works can often be found in public spaces .

Another well-known work is the concrete relief at the Berlin Kino International . It shows fourteen motifs from the leisure and professional life of socialism and was created together with Waldemar Grzimek and Hubert Schiefelbein .
