In public passenger transport, going over the top is understood to mean switching between means of transport of different transport companies or different transport associations .

This is to be differentiated from the transfer , in which there is a change in the means of transport, but which does not have to involve a change in the transport company or transport association.

When crossing, there may be tariff problems with the permissibility of incoming and outgoing traffic - in some transport associations incoming and outgoing traffic is allowed, in others not.
