Łęgnowo
Łęgnowo is a district of the Polish city of Bydgoszcz with 2,798 inhabitants.
history
The district consists of the former village Łęgnowo-Wieś (former names: Czersk Niemiecki, German Czersk, Grünbach, Langenau) and the former settlement Łęgnowo-Osiedle Awaryjne (former names: Czersk Polski, Polish Czersk, Brahnau) . In the 16th century the landowners settled Dutch Mennonites in the area , in the 18th and 19th centuries German colonists settled in the area.
After the attack on Poland , the Germans built the Dynamit Nobel AG Bromberg in Brahnau . In July 1940, they built the external labor camp Bromberg-Brahnau the Stutthof concentration camp . Around 6,000 forced laborers from the DAG Bromberg were housed in the camp. On January 28, 1945, the inmates of the camp were liberated by the Red Army . Until June 1945 there was a satellite camp of the Central Labor Camp Potulice in the buildings , in which 1,500 Germans were interned.
In 1977 Łęgnowo was incorporated into Bydgoszcz.
