The Constantine Cable Car ( French : Le téléphérique de Constantine or La télécabine de Constantine ) is a cable car in Constantine (Algeria) that connects the old town with the Benbadis University Hospital and the Cité Emir Abdelkader district and is part of the local public transport network . It overcomes the more than 100 meters deep gorge of the Oued Rhumel and offers a view of some river bridges and the open countryside beyond the city limits.

description

The gondola starts in the old town at Place Tatache Belkacem, leads 345 meters over the more than 100 meters deep gorge of the Oued Rhumel to the middle station at the hospital and continues over a densely built-up area to the "top station" Tannoudji at the Cité, 1280 meters away Emir Abdelkader. The entire route is 1633 meters long, the difference in altitude is 89 meters.

The train has 33 cabins with 15 seats each. At a maximum speed of six meters per second (21.6 km / h) it has a conveying capacity of 2400 people per hour.

The drive is located in the mountain station, the clamping device in the station in the old town. The hoisting rope with a diameter of 52 millimeters runs over ten cable car supports , three in the first and seven in the second section.

The owner of the cable car, which opened in June 2008, was the Entreprise du métro d'Alger , which already had experience from building the cable cars in Algiers . The cable car was supplied and installed by Doppelmayr / Garaventa Group , which operates here with its Swiss company Garaventa , and the construction work was carried out by Algerian companies. The assembly of the cable car supports, which could not be set up by helicopter as usual, as its downdraft would have caused damage in the densely built-up area, and the cable pull between the houses made special demands.

The cable car is operated by the municipal transport company Entreprise de transport de Constantine (ETC). It was tendered together with the gondola lifts in Tlemcen and Skikda , which were built in the same design around the same time. Two more cable cars are now planned in Constantine.
