Sepuru

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Šepuru ( Hattic : Šewuru ) is a Hattic and hethitische fertility god. The name could belong to hattisch wur ("land, earth").

Šepuru was worshiped in the holy city of Zippalanda together with the vegetation god Telipinu and both were sacrificed on the threshing floor . In the Hittite capital Ḫattuša , on the eleventh day of the AN.TAḪ.ŠUM festival at the gate of the grain goddess Ḫalki , the king also sacrificed to the gods Telipinu and Šepuru. The fact that this deity was closely connected with grain is supported by the fact that one text speaks of a portrait of Šepuru standing next to a mill.
