Ḫuzziya I.
Ḫuzziya I. was a Hittite great king in the 16th century BC. Chr.
Ḫuzziya came to the throne by murder. Probably on his orders, the chief of the bodyguard, Zuru, instructed his son Taḫurwaili to murder the sons of King Ammuna , Titti and Ḫantili, and their families after his death, which also happened. Only Telipinu, who is married to Ḫuzziya's sister Ištapariyaremained alive as Ḫuzziya's claim to the throne was based on this connection. However, Telipinu continued to pose a threat to Ḫuzziya. So the great king tried to have him killed too. But he was betrayed and deposed by Telipinu, who himself became ruler. He banished Ḫuzziya and his five brothers and ordered that they should not suffer any harm. Nevertheless, they were killed by a certain Tanuwa, who was later pardoned by Telipinu.
