The suffix -i is used differently in the German language and is common in everyday language .

According to the Duden , it is used to abbreviate or expand nouns, as is often the case with names , and denotes a pet form , examples being Kati, Klausi, Schatzi . It is also used to abbreviate or expand words of different parts of speech and express a certain benevolent attitude towards the person or thing. On the other hand, it is used and to abbreviate nouns referred to a person who is very general by something characterizes is, examples are Fundi , Sympi, Westerner . In the end, substantive abbreviations were created by omitting the letters following -i ; Assi, Promi , Zivi were given as examples .
