Nounou

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nounou ( Greek ΝΟΥΝΟΥ ) is a dairy product from the Netherlands produced by FrieslandCampina and sold exclusively in Greece .

background

The main product consists essentially of a liquid concentrate of long-life milk and also contains sugar. It has been on offer since 1929 and is an integral part of many dishes in Greek cuisine . Nounou is also consumed as a spread, as a differentiation to other products it is now called Nounou Sacharourcho (containing Nouou sugar).

The name goes back to a product originally designed for the French-speaking market with the name La Nounou , which the Greek armed forces purchased from Friesland until the 1920s . The product is sold in a can with a paper sleeve: the color of the logo has been blue since 1936. In advertising, the Dutch origin of the product has been advertised since the start of production. The "little Dutch girl" on the can has remained unchanged since 1929 and is a characteristic. Nestlé followed suit with the “Gala Vlachas” product. In the 1980s, a light version was also brought onto the market.

Other dairy products are offered under the name Nounou Family , and due to the popularity of the product, FrieslandCampina Hellas's website is also nounou.gr .
