The August 1st Weggen is a yeast pastry of 90 to 240 grams that is offered in Switzerland in bakeries on the Swiss national holiday on August 1st. Before baking, a cross is cut into the dough on the 1st of August. The August 1st bread, which is slightly larger, looks similar.

The Swiss Association of Master Bakers and Confectioners (SBKV) created the August 1st Weggen in 1959. Since then, the very well-known golden brown baked goods have mostly been offered adorned with small Swiss flags.
