100% (South Korean band)

100%

100% ( Korean 백퍼센트 ) is a South Korean boy band that debuted in September 2012 under Andy Lee's company TOP Media with the single "We, 100%". It originally consisted of seven members: Sanghoon was announced in 2014 that it would be taking time off, while Changbum left the group in 2016. Leader Minwoo died in March 2018.

Career

Pre-debut

In 2009 Rockhyun was - under the stage name Rocky (Hangul: 로키) - in Andy Lee's duo Jumper (Hangul: 점퍼) together with Park Dong-min, who released two singles: "Yes!" With Eric von Shinhwa and "Dazzling" (Korean: 눈 이 부셔) with Kang Ji-young. That same year, Minwoo was featured with Park Dong-min ( 박동민 ) during Andy Lee's promotion for his song "Single Man" . Minwoo had also been active as an actor. He starred in KBS2's drama Sharp 3 (Korean: 반올림 3), SBS's 2007 drama The King and I, and in two films, Crazy Waiting (2007) and Where Are You Going? (Korean: 특별시 사람들) (2009).

2012–2013: debut and sub-unit

Between June and September 2012, 100% was featured on SBS MTV's variety show Teen Top Rising 100% (Korean: 틴탑 의 뜬다 백퍼), in which they played alongside TOP media artist Teen Top and its founder Andy Lee. Her debut single "We, 100%" was released on September 18th. It consists of four tracks, including the instrumental version of Bad Boy, all of which were written and produced by Super Changddai. On the same day, the music video for the lead track “Bad Boy” (Korean: 나쁜 놈) went online on the band's official YouTube channel. 100% made their live debut of “Bad Boy” on September 21 at KBS Music Bank, followed by MBC Music Core and SBS Inkigayo that same weekend.

On October 23, MBC held a press conference for 100% and Teen Top's second program in Jangan-dong, Seoul. Teen Top & 100% Rising Brothers (Korean: 틴탑 & 백퍼센트 의 떴다 브라더) premiered three days later on MBC Music and featured the two groups completing missions. The group's first digital single, "Guy Like Me" (Korean: 나 같은 놈), written by Minigun and Super Changddai, was released on December 7th along with their music video.

100% released their first extended game Real 100% and a music video for “Want U Back” on May 23, 2013. On July 17, the group's official fan club, Perfection (퍼펙션), was announced by TOP Media. 100% V, a sub-unit consisting of Rockhyun, Jonghwan and Hyukjin together with rapper Chanyong, was announced by TOP Media on November 14th. The subunit released a single consisting of lead track "Missing You" (퇴근길) and two others on November 20th. They did their first live performance on the Music Bank.

2014–2016: Minwoo's military service and line-up changes

In February 2014, TOP Media announced on both the official website and the 100% Fancafe that Minwoo would have to join the Korean military from March 4th. In March, the agency announced that Sanghoon would take some time off until he finishes what to do in the future. With five remaining members, 100% released their second extended piece "Bang the Bush" and a music video for "심장 이 뛴다 (Beat)" on March 17, 2014.

On September 12, 2016, TOP Media made an official announcement that Changbum has left the group. The remaining members would continue as five, preparing for a comeback in October. 100% released their third expanded game Time Leap and a music video for "지독 하게 (Better Day)" on October 13, 2016.

2017-Now: Japanese debut, The Unit and Minwoo's death

100% debuted in Japan in January 2017 with the single How to Cry . Shortly after the promotions in Japan, a surprising comeback in Korea was announced on the group's website. The group released their fourth mini-album Sketchbook on February 22nd with the title track "Sketch U". On June 22nd, 100% released their second Japanese single, Warrior, and their music video.

On October 1, 2017, it was officially announced that all five members would join The Unit: Idol Rebooting Project . On October 11, it was reported that only two members passed and one member Rockhyun in the center group of the show.

100% released their third Japanese single, Song for You, on February 14, 2018, ten days after the music video was uploaded to YouTube.

On March 25, 2018, it was reported that Minwoo had died of cardiac arrest in his home at the age of 33. On April 2, 2018, it was announced that 100% would resume their career and announce their mini tour before Minwoo's death.
