18 de Julio is a city in southeastern Uruguay .
geography
It is located in the Rocha Department in Sector 5 near the border with neighboring Brazil . A few kilometers away are Chuy to the east and San Luis al Medio to the northwest . The Arroyo San Miguel runs south in the Sierra de San Miguel .
history
Formerly known as San Miguel , 18 de Julio was officially declared a “pueblo” on July 12, 1909 by Law No. 3,495. On June 20, 1961, Law No. 12,876 classified it in the “ Villa ” category .
