2: 2 pull-down

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2: 2 pull-down describes the shifting of several fields of video material by one field forwards or backwards.

A single image normally consists of an odd and an even field, which in the case of progressive image material result in a full image . It often happens, however, that this sequence is shifted by one field: This means that an even field from the previous individual image is combined with the odd field of the current individual image, resulting in a faulty full image.

2: 2 pulldown

With the 2: 2 pull-down it is possible to correct this shift again and thus to obtain progressive image material again.

Just like the inverse telecine technology, the 2: 2 pull-down is of great importance for TFT and plasma televisions, since these screens can only display full images.
