The 26 cm M 17 mine launcher was a gun of the Austro-Hungarian artillery in World War I , which was developed by Škoda . Škoda initially presented two different versions of the mortar: one with a fixed gun barrel and one with a recoil system . Finally, for reasons of cost, it was decided to use the former variant. The gun lay on a floor plate. The recoil was absorbed by the plate and converted into launch energy. In the system with the return pipe, a rail was used that hydropneumatically cushioned the launch. The latter turned out to be too expensive for rapid series production.

The delivery of the mine thrower began in 1918; a total of about 300 copies were built. The total weight was around 1.5 tons and the mortar could be broken down into four parts for transport. The range was approximately 1450 meters.
