35 mm Flab tank B22L
35 mm Flab Panzer B22L is a Swiss anti-aircraft tank .
History and Development
In 1977 a project of the companies Contraves AG, Oerlikon-Bührle and Siemens of an anti-aircraft tank was presented. In 1979 it was decided to build two prototypes in cooperation with K + W Thun. In 1979 the prototypes were handed over to the GRD . From 1979 to 1980 the vehicles were subjected to extensive tests, but the project was then abandoned in favor of the Rapier LW system . The actual weapon system was formed by the Flabturm, which was built by the German Gepard anti-aircraft cannon on the chassis of the Panzer 68, which was widened by 180 mm . It essentially comprised the homing radar, the target tracking radar , the fire control system with computer and the 35 mm twin weapon system.
The crew consisted of the commander, the gunner and the driver. The homing radar allowed continuous and reliable airspace monitoring and friend-foe recognition both when stationary and while driving. The target tracking radar recorded and tracked an assigned aerial target fully automatically in lateral and elevation angles as well as in distance. The analog computer calculated the lead angle for the weapons taking into account the daily influences, the continuously measured V 0 values and the tilt of the tank. The weapon system comprised the two 35 mm belt cannons in twin mountings, the ammunition feed and the ammunition containers.
Both vehicles were with the M numbers M + 0888 and M + 0889 from 1979 to 1980 for tests in the troop service. A vehicle is exhibited in the Thun tank museum.
