Aretha Franklin's birthplace

406 Lucy Avenue is a residential building in the Trigg district of the American city of Memphis ( Tennessee ). It is known as the birthplace of the soul singer Aretha Franklin (1942–2018).

The house is a single family home. It was built in 1930. The living space is about 102 m². The house was owned by Baptist minister CL Franklin . His third child Aretha was born there on March 25, 1942. The family lived there for another two years and moved to Buffalo in May 1944 .

The house is no longer in good shape today. The City of Memphis has had plans several times over the years to renovate the house and turn it into a museum. Allegedly the original bathtub of the Franklin family is still preserved. There was also a plan to remove the house from its foundations and move it to a district more popular with tourists. None of these plans were implemented.

Aretha Franklin had little ties to the house herself. She last visited it in 1995.
