59-60 Jamieson Street

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At 59-60 Jamieson Street in Bowmore , the capital of the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay , there are two residential buildings. On July 20, 1971, they were included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B as part of an ensemble . In 2006 there was a re-categorization and 59-60 Jamieson Street has since been listed as a single monument in category C.

description

The exact time of construction of the building has not been handed down, so that only the later 18th century can be given as the construction period. The houses are therefore among the early buildings of the planned city founded around 1770 and are built in the traditional style. Although both buildings are single-story, house number 59 to the west is significantly lower than its neighboring building. It is entered through an entrance door set in the middle of the front, which is surrounded by two windows. House number 60 has a similar structure. However, it still has a wing that goes off the back at a right angle. Both buildings end with slate roofs . All facades are plastered using the traditional Harling technique.
