View along Cannon's Close to the gateway

The 17th century building is on High Street in central Kirkcudbright. Its masonry is made of quarry stone . The north-facing front of the two-story house is constructed asymmetrically with two lattice windows on the ground floor and three on the upper floor. On the upper floor there is a framed depression on the left that may have once held a plaque or a coat of arms. The entrance door is on the right of the central axis. A lower door opening can be seen in the middle, which was closed with masonry. Another closed opening can be seen on the upper floor. It closed with a segmented arch . The building closes with a steep, slate-covered gable roof .

On the left, a walled arched doorway leads into a narrow alley called Cannon's Close . A flat wing, probably from the time the building was built, runs along the alley. It possibly housed the kitchen. There are also three attached houses from the 19th century in Cannon's Close. They are two-story with facades each two axes wide. As on the main building, the masonry is made of quarry stone with lattice windows inserted. The houses also close with slate roofs.
