History and construction

The ACS-100 Sora is the further development of the CB-10 Triathlon , a project by the Brazilian aircraft designer Claudio Barros from the Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais . The machine is a two-seater low-wing aircraft, optionally with a fixed or retractable nose wheel landing gear . The crew sit next to each other in the cockpit. The machine is made almost entirely of composite materials and is suitable for aerobatics. The first flight took place in June 2008. The aircraft is offered alternatively with the Rotax 912 ULS piston engine with 74 kW or the Lycoming O-235 with 84 kW. The aircraft can also be equipped with a parachute rescue system.

Together with the operators of the Itaipú hydropower plant, the first electrically powered aircraft in South America, based on the "Sora", the Sora-E, was developed. The first flight took place on June 23, 2015 and lasted five minutes. The machine is equipped with two Emrax electric motors from Slovenia with an output of 35 kW each. With six lithium-polymer batteries you can achieve a voltage of 400 volts and a flight time of 45 to 60 minutes. This at a cruising speed of 190 km / h. The maximum speed is 340 km / h and the maximum permissible total weight 650 kg.
