The ansmet (ANSMET) ( program to search for meteorites in Antarctica ) is a program for finding meteorites in Antarctica. The program is the Office of Polar Programs of the US National Science Foundation and the Solar System Exploration Division of NASA funded. It was started in 1976 under the direction of William A. Cassidy of the University of Pittsburg. So far, 20 field missions have been carried out and more than 10,000 finds have been collected. These finds are a continuous and scientifically reliable source of macroscopic extraterrestrial material.
