Lothar Hay (born May 29, 1950 in Hattstedt ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1998 to 2008 he was chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein SPD parliamentary group and from 2008 to July 2009 Minister of the Interior of Schleswig-Holstein .

Life and work

In 1967 Hay went to the commercial high school in Flensburg , where he graduated from high school in 1970 . From 1971 to 1974, Hay completed a teaching degree at the Flensburg University of Education in the subjects of “political education”, geography, history and sociology. He finished his studies in 1974 with the first state examination for teaching at elementary schools ( elementary and secondary schools ). From March 1974 he worked as a teacher in the service of the State of Schleswig-Holstein and worked from 1974 to 1985 as a teacher at the secondary school in Süderbrarup in the Schleswig-Flensburg district , from 1981 to 1985 also as a part-time director of studies. From 1985 he worked as a teacher at primary and secondary schools in Flensburg. From 1997 to 2006 Hay was chairman of the Border Peace Association , then deputy and from 2008 again first chairman of the merged ADS Border Peace Association .

Lothar Hay is married and has three children.

Political party

He has been a member of the SPD since 1970. From 1995 to 1998 he was chairman of the SPD district association in Flensburg . He left the SPD on August 31, 2018.

Hay was a member of the council of Flensburg from 1978 to 1992 and was deputy mayor of the city of Flensburg from 1982 to 1986 and from 1986 to 1992 he was mayor .

From 1992 to 2012, Hay was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament . Here he was chairman of the finance committee from 1996 to 1998. From November 3, 1998 to January 15, 2008 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group . In the 17th legislative period (2009–2012) he was the age president of the state parliament.

Lothar Hay's 1992 and 2000 as directly selected delegates of the constituency always Flensburg-East and elsewhere on the national list drawn into the parliament.

Public offices

After the previous incumbent Ralf Stegner resigned, as announced in autumn 2007, Hay was appointed Interior Minister of Schleswig-Holstein on January 15, 2008 by Prime Minister Peter Harry Carstensen (CDU).

After the break of the grand coalition in July 2009, Hay, like all other SPD ministers, was dismissed from his office in the state government by Peter Harry Carstensen on July 20, 2009 at the end of July 21, 2009. His successor as Minister of the Interior was Rainer Wiegard (CDU).

From 2008 to 2009, Hay was a member of the Supervisory Board of HSH Nordbank as the representative of the State of Schleswig-Holstein .

Since September 12, 2012, Hay has been chairman of the media council of the Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein media authority .
