Sabine Sütterlin Waack (* 15. February 1958 in Reinbek as Sabine Schwarz ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2013 to 2017 she was a member of the German Bundestag , from 2017 to 2020 she was Minister for Justice, Europe, Consumer Protection and Equality for the State of Schleswig-Holstein . On April 29, 2020 she was appointed Minister of the Interior, Rural Areas and Integration; on May 15, 2020, the name of her department changed to Ministry of the Interior, Rural Areas, Integration and Equality .

Family, life and work

Sabine Sütterlin-Waack comes from a family of politicians in Schleswig-Holstein. Her father, the long-time State Minister Henning Schwarz (1928–1993), was also the Executive Minister-President in 1987/88; her grandfather Werner Schwarz (1900–1982) was a member of the Bundestag and from 1959 to 1965 Federal Minister of Agriculture. She is married in her second marriage and has two sons from her first marriage.

Due to the frequent relocation of her parents, Sütterlin-Waack attended schools in Ahrensburg and Preetz before she graduated from the Emil-von-Behring -Gymnasium in Großhansdorf in 1977 . From 1977 to 1979 she trained as a retail clerk at what was then Karstadt AG, then studied law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and at the University of Lausanne , and then in 1986 at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel with the first To complete state examination. In 1989 the second state examination followed at the Judicial Examination Office in Hamburg . In 1990 she did her doctorate on the subject of "The Day of German Unity through the Ages".

From 1990 to 1993 Sütterlin-Waack worked as a research assistant for the CDU parliamentary group in Hesse . In 1994 she joined a law firm in Schleswig as a lawyer .

Honorary positions

Sütterlin-Waack joined the CDU in 1976. From 1992 to 1994 she worked as the deputy local chairwoman of the CDU in Budenheim / Rhineland-Palatinate and after moving to Schleswig-Holstein in 2004 she became deputy chairwoman of the CDU local association Schuby / Lürschau . Since 2009 she has been chairwoman of the CDU official association Arensharde . At the state party conference of the CDU on November 19, 2016, Sütterlin-Waack was elected deputy state chairwoman of the CDU Schleswig-Holstein.

From 1994 to 2002 she was also a volunteer chairman of the school parents' council of the Schuby primary and secondary school.

Political electoral offices

Local politician (2003-2013)

In the local elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 2003, she was elected as community representative in Lürschau and there, deputy mayor . As such, she was a member of the Office Committee of the Schuby Office and chairwoman of the School and Culture Committee there. From 2011 until she moved into the Bundestag, Sütterlin-Waack was also honorary mayor of the Lüschau community.

Member of the German Bundestag (2013-2017)

In the internal nomination for the CDU Bundestag candidate in the Bundestag constituency of Flensburg - Schleswig , Sütterlin-Waack initially lost on October 1, 2012 with just under 307 to 312 votes against the incumbent, non-constituency CDU state chairman Jost de Jager , but after this one week later as CDU -The state chairman and CDU constituency candidate resigned, she was nominated on February 5, 2013 with 224 of 231 votes.

In the 2013 federal election , Sütterlin-Waack won the direct mandate with 42.5 percent of the first votes and thus entered the 18th Bundestag . There she was a member of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection .

In November 2016 she was elected one of the four deputy state chairmen of the CDU Schleswig-Holstein . In November 2018, she no longer took up this post, followed by State Education Minister Karin Prien .

Minister of Justice of the State of Schleswig-Holstein (2017–2020)

After the victory of the CDU in the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 2017 , she was appointed Minister for Justice, Europe, Consumer Protection and Equality in the Günther cabinet on June 28, 2017 and left the Bundestag. Her successor there was Thomas Jepsen .

Interior Minister of the State of Schleswig-Holstein (since 2020)

After Hans-Joachim Grote resigned as Minister of the Interior, Daniel Günther appointed her as the new Minister for the Interior, Rural Areas and Integration of Schleswig-Holstein on April 29, 2020. On May 15, 2020, the name of her department changed to Ministry of the Interior, Rural Areas, Integration and Equality .
