Claus Christian Claussen (born March 26, 1961 in Bad Segeberg ) is a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ). Since June 6, 2017 he has been a member of the Schleswig-Holstein State Parliament and since May 4, 2020 Minister for Justice, Europe, Consumer Protection and Equality (renamed the Ministry for Justice, Europe and Consumer Protection on May 15, 2020 ) of the State of Schleswig- Holstein in the Günther cabinet .

Life and work

Claussen obtained his Abitur in 1980 at the Bargteheide high school . He then did two years of military service with an obligation as a temporary soldier , during which he suffered military service damage with a degree of disability of 80.

From 1982 to 1992 he studied law in Hamburg , followed by a legal clerkship at the regional court in Flensburg . This included positions at the Administration College in Speyer and the German-Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Melbourne . After passing the second state examination , he was admitted to the bar and worked in a law firm in Flensburg .

From 1995 to 1997 Claussen worked for the Waterways and Shipping Directorate in Kiel , with a focus on planning approval for transport projects. Since 1997 he has worked as an independent lawyer , since 2001 as a notary , since 2009 as a specialist lawyer for family law and since 2011 as a mediator.

Claus Christian Claussen lives in Bargteheide . He is divorced and has five children. The former state minister Karl Eduard Claussen was his father.

politics

Claussen's political commitment began in 1975 when he joined the Junge Union . There he was, among other things, deputy chairman of the Stormarn district association . In 1993 he joined the CDU, for which he worked as deputy chairman of the Flensburg district association and as a civil member of the building committee of the city of Flensburg.

From 1998 to 2018 Claussen was city representative in Bargteheide, from 2008 to 2016 as parliamentary group leader of the CDU and from 2008 to 2018 as deputy mayor of the city.

Claussen was also a member of the state board of the CDU Schleswig-Holstein from 2000 to 2016 .

In the state elections in 2017 , Claus Christian Claussen entered the state parliament with 38.7 percent of the first votes as a directly elected member of the constituency of Stormarn-Nord and acquired membership in the state parliament at the constituent session on June 6, 2017 . Claussen was chairman of the parliamentary group “Interior and Law” and thus domestic policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group. He also acted as a spokesman for justice and the armed forces.

Claussen was a member of the Interior and Legal Committee and chairman of the parliamentary committee of inquiry into the "rocker affair".

minister

After the resignation of State Minister of the Interior Hans-Joachim Grote on April 28, 2020, there was a reshuffle of the cabinet, in which the previous Minister of Justice Sabine Sütterlin-Waack was appointed as the new Minister of the Interior by Prime Minister Daniel Günther . Claussen was appointed as her successor as Minister for Justice, Europe, Consumer Protection and Equality on May 4, 2020. With effect from May 15, 2020, the name of the Justice Department changed to the Ministry of Justice, Europe and Consumer Protection .
