  • 1945 : The USA declares the volcanic island of Iwojima , on which they landed on February 19 in combat against Japanese units, to be safe. This ends the Battle of Iwojima , one of the bloodiest battles of the Pacific War .
  • 1970 : The ambassadors of the four occupying powers begin negotiations in Berlin for a Berlin agreement that should clarify the future status of the city. The Berlin question should not disturb the process of détente between East and West.
1971: Mujibur Rahman
  • 1971 : One day after the breakdown of negotiations between West and East Pakistan on the formation of a government, West Pakistani units under Supreme Commander Yahya Khan arrest the leader of the East Pakistani Awami League , Mujibur Rahman . So that the fighting in the starting Bangladesh Liberation War , the League declared in response under the name of Bangladesh , the independence of East Pakistan from Pakistan .
  • 1975 : The Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Storage of Bacteriological (biological) Weapons and Toxin Weapons and the Destruction of Such Weapons ( Biological Weapons Convention ), adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 16, 1971 , comes into force.
  • 1975 : Austria is the first western country to contractually recognize GDR citizenship .
