Theodore Raymond "TR" Knight (born March 26, 1973 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an American actor.

Life & Career

Until he moved to New York , TR Knight lived and worked in his hometown of Minneapolis, where he was employed in the local acting group of the Guthrie Theater, in which Knight later also took part in a few selected plays.

In New York Knight made his way with smaller Broadway productions until his breakthrough in 2003 with his portrayal of Damis in Molières Tartuffe . That same year, he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for his performance in Anto Howard's Scattergood in the Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play category.

Later, minor roles in television series followed before Knight received a lead role in Grey's Anatomy in 2005 . For the part of the young and anxious assistant doctor Dr. George O'Malley was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2006 together with the acting ensemble around Ellen Pompeo , Patrick Dempsey and Sandra Oh . In the same year, Knight came into the focus of the tabloids when he came out as homosexual in the US weekly People magazine in an attempt to end the "unnecessary rumors". In 2009, Knight asked to be released from his contract with Grey's Anatomy three years before it expired. This request was granted after the fifth season of the series. Then the actor began a theater engagement.

Knight has lived in a registered partnership since October 2013 .
