action
Jake Epping, a recently divorced English teacher at high school in Lisbon , Maine , is in a crisis of meaning and striving for a meaningful life. One evening when he corrected the essays of his GED class with the task: “The day that changed my life”, one of the essays fascinated him. It is the work of Harry Dunning, the school's handicapped caretaker, who is now catching up with his school leaving certificate. In his essay, he describes the events of one Halloween night in 1960, in which his drunk father Frank Dunning killed his mother and siblings with a hammer and crippled him himself. In the present, Epping learns of a secret time portal that is located in the pantry of the diner he regularly visits and leads to October 21, 1960, 11:58 a.m. to the second. Regardless of how long a time traveler stays in the past, only two minutes pass in the present. Al Templeton, the innkeeper, is convinced that world affairs would have taken a more peaceful development without the assassination attempt on John F. Kennedy . But since he is too sick himself, Jake dares to try and travels into the past to identify Lee Harvey Oswald as the assassin and to save Kennedy from death. Jake doesn't know how he will change the course of history with his actions in the past, nor does he suspect that it doesn't just want to be changed. So Jake travels through time several more times and begins a double life in then and now. However, several people in the past seem to sense that Jake does not belong in their time and issue warnings to him. So does the man with the yellow card, who always appears when Jake is in danger.

reception
Reviews
The first season of the series was able to convince 80 percent of the critics at Rotten Tomatoes (from a total of 46 critics, as of March 17, 2016). 11.22.63 is described there by consensus as a convincing and well-executed series .
Nina Rehfeld from SPIEGEL ONLINE is impressed by the work of the series creator Bridget Carpenter , who skillfully combined King's 850-page novel into a coherent whole and thus designed a completed eight-part series that elegantly pays homage to the sixties connect, but at the same time show in all sharpness the bad sides of the good old days, in which one looked at nuclear annihilation during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Rehfeld also notes that the deliberately lengthy political thriller is quite entertaining despite its length.
Karoline Meta Beisel from the Süddeutsche Zeitung also notes that the series is not a classic time travel saga. The story feels more like a period film than science fiction .
