Washington's Birthday (Eng. "Washington's Birthday") or Presidents 'Day (Eng. " Presidents' Day ") is an American memorial day, which is celebrated on the third Monday in February.


Originally February 22 , the birthday of George Washington , the leading figure in the Revolutionary War and first President of the United States , was celebrated as a national holiday. Moreover, in most was US states even the 12. February is a holiday, the birthday of Abraham Lincoln , the president during the Civil War .

In the mid-1970s, Congress decided to establish a public holiday in honor of all US presidents. However, federal law continues to refer to this holiday as "Washington's Birthday." Most state authorities also celebrate the day, but they name it differently. It is popular in the retail trade for discount offers, similar to winter sales.
