action

Tess Thorne is a successful author of numerous crime novels in which several older women appear as protagonists who have formed a " knitting club" and solve criminal cases together . After a reading in front of a fan club in a distant state , she drives her car back on an alternative route that the organizer Ramona had previously recommended. In a remote area, she overlooks numerous nailed planks that lay in the street. She can bring the vehicle to a stop at an abandoned petrol station, but is not able to replace a defective tire herself. Since her mobile phone has no reception, she is overjoyed when a tall man gets out of a pickup truck and initially apparently offers her help. However, he quickly shows his true colors, rapes Tess, knocks her unconscious and dumps the supposedly dead woman in a sewer.

Tess wakes up and discovers three female corpses in the sewer. She debates whether to report the attack or not. Tess worries that the public will not believe her and rather suspect that she is just trying to provoke a scandal to promote the sales of her books. So she decides not to tell anyone about the incident and has a limousine service bring her home. Once there, she seeks revenge - supported by the imaginary ladies of her “knitting club”, with whom she enters into an alleged dialogue.

A short time later, she receives a call from Betsy, who works as an employee in a bar in the region where the incident happened. Betsy asks Tess to pick up her car there that an acquaintance has parked there. Because of his height, he is known locally as the “Big Driver”. In conversation with Betsy, Tess realizes that she too has been the victim of violence. She researches further and learns that Ramona is the mother of the alleged rapist. She looks for Ramona in her house, who initially denies any connection. There is an argument in which Ramona is stabbed by Tess. She in turn finds her earrings in Ramona's bathroom, which the Big Driver had taken from her. Then Tess drives back to the region in which she suffered violence. She follows a pickup truck she believes the Big Driver is driving. When the driver gets out, she shoots him. However, Tess realizes that she shot the Big Driver's little brother. She makes serious accusations and drives to the Big Driver's house. There she breaks into his apartment and finds evidence that the little brother was involved in the crimes - including photos he took while Tess was being mistreated by the Big Driver. This in turn works in an adjacent garage. Tess shoots him twice until the gun is empty. Then she injures his head with one of the boards studded with nails, reloads the gun and shoots him in his genitals.

The police found out about the remaining bodies in the drainpipe through an anonymous phone call. A short time later, Tess's phone rings too. It's Betsy who says, “I know what you did. Good girl. ”.

reception

The editors of the online portal filmstarts rated the film with 2.5 stars out of 5. She praises the fact that the production of the female TV channel Lifetime lives up to her standards. As a “sympathetic anti-heroine” she portrays a “curiously complex” person. At the same time, she criticizes the comparatively low level of creativity with which Salomon depicts the attacks of Thess. Overall, however, the film collects plus points due to the complex protagonist. The online community moviepilot rated the film with 5.3 out of 10 points.
