Ann Dowd (born January 30, 1956 in Holyoke , Massachusetts ) is an American actress .

Career

Since 1985, Dowd has appeared in more than 80 film and television productions. Her role in Compliance (2012) earned her several nominations and awards, including a. from the National Board of Review . She won an Emmy in 2017 for her supporting role as Aunt Lydia in the series The Handmaid's Tale . 2019 Dowd said the role of Aunt Lydia in the audio book version of Margaret Atwood's novel The witnesses ( The Testament ).

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
