action

Third Watch - Operation at the Limit deals with the grueling everyday life of firefighters , police officers and paramedics in the fictitious 55th district in New York's Manhattan borough . This district is on the corner of King Boulevard and Arthur Street , which is why it is also called Camelot . The characters work in the shift from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and thus hold the third watch of the day. In a city like New York someone is constantly dialing the emergency number and so the action-packed series shows the real heroes of everyday life: Sully, Doc, Faith, Ty, Jimmy, Kim, Carlos, Bobby and Bosco, who every day, without hesitation, face dangers and emergencies to save human lives or solve and prevent crimes.

background

The series is a mix of drama , crime and action . The episodes are made up of numerous individual episodes that deal with the development of a character and storylines that are followed over several episodes, some over several seasons.

Third Watch launched in the US in 1999, ran for six seasons and 132 episodes, and was discontinued by NBC in May 2005 . To date, only the first three seasons have been bought and dubbed by the German broadcaster VOX . VOX has announced that they will not buy another season and will only rely on the new CSI series. Third Watch has also been broadcast on TNT Serie since January 31, 2009 .

In contrast to many other series with this theme, Third Watch is assigned a special realism. Of course, many situations are dramatically exaggerated, but the presentation of the tasks of paramedics and a fire engine has also earned praise from the specialist press, for example the fire department magazine .

The first season with all 22 episodes has been available on DVD in Germany since April 2006 . It has not yet been decided whether the synchronized seasons 2 and 3 will also be released on DVD. According to TV Spielfilm (issue 06/07), Warner is not planning any further DVD releases. On the US market, however, the second season has been available as a DVD box since July 7, 2009. There is no German synchronization or German subtitles.

Remarks

  • Third Watch is considered the official offshoot of the TV series Emergency Room - Die Notaufnahme (ER), but is usually not perceived by fans as an offshoot. Although both series are set in different cities, there is a so-called crossover . As with ER, John Wells works with Christopher Chulack Executive Producer on this series . Another crossover took place in 2005 with the Medical Investigation series .
  • The terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center were incorporated into the series. For this, the first two episodes of the third season (2001-2002), which had already been shot, were rewritten and re-shot. In addition to praise for the sincere and emotional portrayal of 9/11, the series has also been accused of depicting violence too extensively.
  • Real firefighters from New York are involved in the production of the series. They also took part in the operations on September 11th and lost comrades there.
  • In the pilot episode “Right Here, Right Now” by Fatboy Slim can be heard during the opening scenes , the title track in all subsequent episodes is “Keep Hope Alive” by The Crystal Method .
