Michael Beach (born October 30, 1963 in Roxbury , Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American actor with roots in Cape Verde .

Life

Beach first came into contact with acting in high school, when a friend persuaded him to audition for a school play. He got the role and a little later moved to the Juilliard School in New York . During his time there he took part in numerous plays. Eventually he moved to Los Angeles and starred in the theater productions Ascension Day and Much Ado About Nothing .

His work at the theater slowly introduced him to the film business. At the beginning he was only offered smaller roles. He celebrated his first major success with Abyss - The Abyss of Death , directed by James Cameron . After shooting the film One False Move with Billy Bob Thornton , he was later able to land a role in Robert Altman's film Short Cuts . His final breakthrough came with the film Waiting to Exhale , in which he played alongside Angela Bassett and Whitney Houston . In the film Soul Food , alongside Vanessa Lynn Williams and Vivica A. Fox , he played a husband who was cheating on his wife, just like in Waiting for Mr. Right . In 2006 he starred in the film Lenaxa, 1 Mile , directed by his former colleague from Third Watch , Jason Wiles .

In addition to his films, he has also made numerous guest appearances on television series such as Back to the Past , New York Cops - NYPD Blue , Law & Order , Emergency Room - The Emergency Room and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit . He played a leading role in the television series Third Watch - Einsatz am Limit from 1999 to 2004.

Michael Beach married his wife Tracy in 1989. The marriage was divorced in 2006. The marriage resulted in four children.
