action

The film tells the story of Durell (Ice Cube) and LeeJohn (Tracy Morgan), two small crook friends from Baltimore, Maryland. When the two try to get ten stolen wheelchairs for a gang boss in order to get some quick money, they lose the "goods" when they are followed by the police. As a result, the two are sentenced by the court to 5000 hours of community work and are also forced to raise $ 12,000 to make up for the loss of the gang boss's wheelchairs because he threatened them with murder. At the same time, Durell's ex-wife (Regina Hall) decides to move to Atlanta with their son (CJ Sanders) because she can no longer pay the rent.

First the two try to take out a loan from Mordecai, the owner of a massage parlor, but nothing comes of it after LeeJohn frightened and flees the salon after he noticed that his masseuse is a man (namely Mordecai himself).

In their desperation, the two then develop a plan to rob the affluent parish in the neighborhood, but this project is more difficult than they had previously thought. Because the two discover that the revenue they wanted to steal had already been stolen. Furious about it, the two want to hold all those present as hostages until the stolen money turns up again. While Durell tries to repair the defective air conditioning, the "hostages" are monitored by LeeJohn. He then expresses his sadness about the current situation and is comforted by Sister Doris (Loretta Devine). Meanwhile, Durell and Tianna (Malinda Williams), the daughter of the pastor of the congregation, manage to repair the air conditioning, after which they return to the reception area of the church. While Durell receives a call from his son, the almost deaf-blind caretaker accidentally finds the stolen money. After the call, Durell is also accused by Momma T (Olivia Cole), who claims that he did the robbery not for his son but for himself and that he should put the blame on himself. While policemen have already surrounded the church to prevent Durell and LeeJohn from escaping, Durell decides against the money because he doesn't want to lose his son. The pastor advises the two of them to flee through the back entrance, but they are still caught by the police. In the ensuing trial of the petty criminals, at which the entire parish is present, the parish deacon (Michael Beach) accuses the two of them of attempting to steal $ 64,000. Since the amount of the collected money of the church was only half of that, the deacon suddenly comes under suspicion. Since none of the other parishioners testifies against Durell and LeeJohn, the two are acquitted.

Durell then visits his ex-wife Omunique again, who wonders about a package of money that was previously left on her doorstep. Durell then explains that it is a gift and asks her not to take away their son Durell Jr., as he is his one and only. After Omunique decides not to move, the film ends with the congregation giving a big party for Durell and LeeJohn.

The reviews of the film were quite positive. The editors of cinefacts.de described the film as "a mixture of black humor, light entertainment and good gags". Director Talbert "trumps with his really successful situation comedy, as well as with really funny actors who convincingly stage their roles". This makes the film a "totally funny gangster comedy".

The lexicon of international films said: "Originally conceived, a little too indecisively staged comedy in which ex-gangsta rapper Ice Cube is transformed into a" Family Man "."
