The Rookie is an American television series broadcast by ABC . The first season with 20 episodes aired between fall 2018 and spring 2019. On May 10, 2019, ABC announced that it had ordered a second season.

On May 21, 2020, ABC extended the series for a third season.

content

Contractor John Nolan was divorcing his wife in his late thirties and leaving his son for college when he was caught in a bank robbery. He comes to the police unexpectedly by distracting the robbers. Inspired by the experience, he decides to move to Los Angeles and start a new life as a police officer with the LAPD . After graduating from the Police Academy, John is the oldest rookie in the troupe and has to master the dangerous, unpredictable tasks of his job and is determined to survive his new career despite the challenges. He gets support from the other two rookies Lucy Chen and Jackson West as well as antipathy from his superior Sergeant Gray, who sees him as a risk for the troops.

production

The broadcaster ABC announced in October 2017 that it had ordered The Rookie "straight-to-series", that is, without a pre-produced pilot film . Leading actor Nathan Fillion and writer Alexi Hawley, who had previously worked on the hit crime series Castle , have been announced as executive producers . The Rookie is produced by ABC Studios in association with the Mark Gordon company.

Work on the pilot began on March 7, 2018. Filming took place in Los Angeles and New York City .

In the second season, Afton Williamson , who previously played the role of Talia Bishop, can no longer be seen. In early August 2019, she announced her departure from the series on Instagram . The reasons are racist insults and sexual harassment on the set. The accused by her are the head of the hairstylists Sally Nicole Ciganovich and the actor Demetrius Grosse . An investigation by an investigative law firm in September 2019 concluded that there was no evidence to support Williamson's allegations.

Cast and dubbing

The German language dubbing of the television series was created at Brandtfilm in Potsdam - Babelsberg . Angelika Brötzmann and Victoria Sturm wrote the dialogue books for the episodes. The dialogue director was Charles Rettinghaus .
