Crisis is an American television series developed by Rand Ravich . The series was produced between 2013 and 2014 by 20th Century Fox Television and Ravich-Shariat Productions for the television station NBC . The television series revolves around the kidnapped students from an elite school, including the president's son, and the international crisis that resulted. It was first broadcast on March 16, 2014. After just one season, the series ended with the broadcast of a double episode on June 21, 2014.
action
The students of Ballard High School, an elite school for children and teenagers from wealthy business people, influential entrepreneurs or important diplomats, are on their way to a school trip. Students include Beth Ann Gibson, Amber Fitch, Ian Martinez, Anton Roth, Kyle Devore, Luke Putnam, Sloan Yarrow, and Jin Liao, and the President's son, Kyle Devore. Former CIA analyst Francis Gibson and class teacher Mr. Nash are accompanying them. Francis takes part in the excursion because he wants to improve his relationship with his daughter Beth Ann, who has not been on good terms with him since their parents divorced. The school bus is escorted by Secret Service agents Hurst and Marcus Finley, who is on his first day at the Secret Service. The school bus is ambushed and kidnapped by strangers and Hurst.
It quickly becomes clear to all those affected that the kidnapping did not happen by chance, but rather that it served as leverage against the influential parents. FBI Special Agent Susie Dunn is put on the case and finds out that her niece Amber Fitch is among the abductees. That leads to her meeting her older sister, Meg Fitch. Later it emerges that Amber is actually Susie's daughter, but grew up with Meg and knows nothing about who her real mother is. Since Meg doesn't trust her sister, she tries on her own to save her "daughter".
The hostages are locked in an empty house. Beth Ann slowly develops a relationship with her father, unaware that he is the mastermind behind the kidnapping. Francis did this because he had been betrayed by the government years earlier. Kyle Devore has to deal with everyone believing they were kidnapped just because of him. He befriends the outsider Beth Ann and the two slowly get closer. Beth Ann's best friend Ian is in love with Amber, but discovers that she is having an affair with Mr. Nash.
production
In August 2012, Rand Ravich came up with the idea for the series and sold it to NBC television . The station had a pilot episode produced in spring 2013. Gillian Anderson , Rachael Taylor , James Lafferty and Dermot Mulroney were able to secure the leading roles . The main cast was supplemented by the young actors Max Schneider , Halston Sage , Stevie Lynn Jones and Joshua Erenberg . Mark Valley could be hired for a supporting role . After viewing the pilot episode, a 13-part season was ordered in May 2013, which will be broadcast on the station in spring 2014.
At the beginning of November 2013, after five completed episodes, they took a one-week break from filming because they wanted to correct their course. The producers believed that the episodes that followed had deviated too much from the direction the pilot was aiming for. Therefore, the writers were asked to revise the story and the scripts again. In addition, there were re-shoots for the already wacky episodes. Filming resumed in mid-November.
In May 2014, NBC announced the end of the series after the first season.

reception
The television series was rated on Metacritic with a Metascore of 63/100 based on 28 reviews.
The test audience considered the series to be one of the best-rated reboots alongside The Blacklist .
Felix Böhme from Serienjunkies.de found that the series made “a solid impression at first glance”, but one also quickly recognized “that the series not only shows little new, but above all chases after its own demands and expectations”. He notes that "well-known actors" are not enough. He also thinks that the television series “goes in a rather simple direction”, “where numerous surprising twists and turns are the order of the day and should be distracted from the rather flat plot by brief moments of shock”. Basically, he is of the opinion that "the premise fits into a 90-minute film and could be dealt with in a very short time."
