John Frederick "Fred" Dryer (born July 6, 1946 in Hawthorne , California ) is an American actor , director and former American football player.
Life
Before he started working as an actor, Fred Dryer was active as a football player. His career began at San Diego State University . He was later recruited by the New York Giants , where he played from 1969 to 1971. Other teams he played for were the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams .
After 14 years, however, he ended his career in football and began acting in the early 1980s. His first film, The Star Maker , was produced for television in 1981. His best known role is that of Sergeant Rick Hunter in the television series Hunter , which was produced from 1984 to 1991. Dryer also worked as a director. He directed an episode of the Hunter series and directed the thriller Highway 395 in 2000 .
Fred Dryer was married to actress Tracy Vaccaro from 1983 to 1988 and they have a daughter together.
